Applause for ELD's short-sightedness. Pity those public servants being called up to double as election officers this time round, they probably gotta stick around way past midnight.
Gentle reminder to all: Tomorrow is cooling off day, so please lee-member to diam diam and not post GE-related stuff, unless you are yearning for a cup of kopi at cantonment police complex.
GE2020: False information circulating on treated ballot papers, self-inking pens, says ELD
The Elections Department Singapore noted that the introduction of the self-inking pens is to allow voters to indicate their choice on the ballot papers clearly and easily.
SINGAPORE — False information is making the rounds claiming that the ballot papers and self-inking pens provided for voters for the General Election have been treated so that the marks made on the ballot papers “become invisible” after several minutes, the Elections Department Singapore (ELD) said on Tuesday (July 7).
In a press statement, ELD said that the false information has been circulating online and on instant messaging platforms.
“First, the marks made using the self-inking pens are permanent. In fact, the ink is oil-based, and water and temperature resistant. Similar pens have also been used in elections in other countries, including the Republic of Korea,” ELD said.
It added that the ballot papers that will be used on Polling Day this Friday “are no different from the ones used in past elections and are printed under tight security conditions”.
“It will not be possible for the ballot papers to be put through any additional treatment under such a tightly controlled environment,” ELD said.
PAP CANDIDATE GAN SIOW HUANG EXPLAINS WHY SHE SPOKE SO ‘FIERCELY’ DURING NOMINATION DAY
Even before the General Election was called—heck, even before the Circuit Breaker was called, we got to know Gan Siow Huang, the first female General in the SAF who had then been tipped to contest in the General Elections. A plot twist then occurred during Nomination Day when it was revealed that she was going to contest in an SMC all by herself.
That’s one brave General who walks the talk.
During her introduction video, she doesn’t sound like a typical soldier, though she looked like she could stare into your soul.
But come nomination day, when she addressed the voters, Ms Gan reverted to Brigadier-General Gan.
Firstly, she didn’t walk to her mic. The mic walked to her.
And when she spoke, she spoke while on a strict “sedia” stance—her entire body was so straight and rooted to the floor, a wild boar would have bounced straight to Mars if it tried to ram into her.
And the way she spoke?
Classic.
The 45-year-old was so serious in her speech, she sounded like she was going to a war.
In fact, if you don’t understand English and watch this video, you’d think that the woman has just gone back to SAF and is preparing for a war with some dragons.
You can take the girl out of the army, but you can’t take the army out of the girl.
The Marymount SMC candidate subsequently revealed why she decided to address her voters like she was addressing her soldiers during an ops parade.
In it, her team showed her the war cry video, and she laughed at it, saying that it was very “creative”.
She then added, “Frankly, I think, I’m usually not so fierce…I’m very approachable.”
So why the sudden change from Ms Approachable to BG Rage during the speech?
“I had to tell my residents that I’m serious about wanting to serve them; serious about wanting to make Marymount the best home for all. Now, I’m here to get to know the residents face to face, and I hope that they’ll see the true me.”
