SINGAPORE — Mandatory SafeEntry (SE) check-ins at wet markets and hawker centres across Singapore will be progressively implemented over the coming weeks, said the Ministry of Health (MOH) on Tuesday (20 July).
"This means that everyone entering wet markets and hawker centres must check in with their TraceTogether (TT) App or Token using the SEGW, or by scanning the SE QR code with the TT App," said the ministry in a news release.
The move comes amid a spike in COVID-19 community infections, including two large clusters of cases linked to various KTV lounges or nightclubs as well as the Jurong Fishery Port.
MOH noted that wet markets and hawker centres are frequently visited my members of the public and are places where seniors tend to congregate. There is high potential for transmission in such places given the "close proximity between individuals or mask-off activities, as evidenced by the recent clusters detected at these settings," the ministry added.
As of Monday, COVID-19 infections have been detected at 26 markets and food centres.
