SINGAPORE: A 23-year-old man suspected of knocking down a woman while riding an electric scooter has been arrested, said the police in a news release on Thursday (Mar 15).
He was arrested along Bedok North Street 3 on Wednesday, police said.
The police said they received a report last Wednesday (Mar 7) at around 6pm, saying a woman was knocked down by a man riding an e-scooter along Bedok Reservoir Road. The woman sustained head injuries as a result of the accident.
Family members had posted on Facebook over the weekend that the woman, 45-year-old Goh Lay Yong, was in the intensive care unit.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the man was unable to stop his electric scooter in time and had collided with the woman, police said.
The suspect then fled the scene after calling for an ambulance.

This accident changes nothing. LTA will drag its feet in terms of implementing any form of legislation to instill grater discipline in these motherfucker riders, perhaps until a minister's precious son gets knocked down one fine day.

A man who knocked a woman down with his e-scooter and then fled the scene was charged with one count of rash act causing grievous hurt on Friday (16 March).
Muhammad Sha’if Jumadi, 23, collided with 45-year-old Goh Lay Yong from behind as she was stepping off an overhead bridge along Bedok Reservoir Road last Wednesday at 6.10pm.
Sha’if was unable to stop the e-scooter on time, according to the police. He called for an ambulance but then left the scene of the incident.
Goh, who sustained severe head injuries in the accident, had to undergo an operation, according to a Facebook post by her brother.
Police officers arrested Sha’if along Bedok North Street 3 on Wednesday after establishing his identity using footage from police cameras.
Sha’if was granted $10,000 bail. He will be back in court on 13 April pending the victim’s medical report.
If convicted of a rash act causing grievous injury, Sha’if may be jailed up to four years, fined up to $10,000, or both.
