Dear PM Lee,
In spite of your siblings leveling extremely serious allegations against yourself and the government, you have chosen to play the noble elder brother. Wow, a round of applause for you. Who is actually clapping though, I am thoroughly unsure. Your little act of nobility however comes associated with heavy repercussions.
Because of your now apparent weak resolve to accord these allegations proper due process, you have placed yourself, and more importantly the entire system of governance in an unenviably precarious position. In case your Cambridge educated, senior wrangler anointed posterior is still unable to fully appreciate the mathematical implications of this decision to hold back, kindly allow me to lay them out for your benefit:
1. You have forever lost the moral authority to govern Singapore. The man on the street will always be doubtful of your integrity and uncertain of the government's overall decency. He has every right to feel that way, because the dark clouds left hanging were never rigorously addressed in a court of law. Your flimsy recourse of debating this soap opera in a PAP controlled parliament convinces no citizen, not even those born with half a helping of brain. The ambiguity of this state of affairs has henceforth compromised the purity of your future endeavors to steer the little red dot- whether you are seriously trying to do right by the people or merely attempting to further your personal agendas, things are left wide open to interpretation. Boy that surely doesn't look good on you.
2. Mdm Ho Ching-well meaning spouse and sister-in-law, scheming opportunist or master manipulator? Or perhaps just an accidental fan of abstract vulgar simian photography? As it shall remain, her words against those of your siblings'. Nothing more. We will never know exactly how she featured in the Oxley Road house dispute, and as some crudely hypothesized, if she led you by the nose for a long while. Because back and forth assertions/counter-assertions on Facebook do not and will never constitute a definitive declaration of the righteous and less than saintly. You say, she says, he says, but no judge ain't say nothing yes? And there is ongoing cause for concern, because she is still presently allowed to oversee Temasek Holdings which everyone knows has a significant hand in managing the country's reserves. Amidst the disquiet surrounding her meddlesome qualities as alleged by your siblings, are we not permitted to say our confidence in her is somewhat shaken?
3. The Lee Familee cult- ironically your son and nephew demonstrated much greater composure and maturity compared to your fumbling self, then again that is largely besides the point. The point is Singapore is more than any single individual, or one family in that regard. We want the ablest of visionaries to represent us, to forge a better tomorrow for coming generations. Passing on the baton is against the biology of natural selection, because no country's citizens deserve second best. If anyone requires persuasion, you are the perfect case in point. Born with a silver spoon in the mouth, having enjoyed a tremendously privileged upbringing and permanently stuck in your ivory tower, you never fought through the fires alongside us. Unlike your father whom we view as a demigod in politics because he was there to build Singapore up from ground zero. While you cannot be faulted for not trying, your best is just not good enough for the people. In all honesty, you are a mediocre statesman who has populated his cabinet with garden-variety shortsighted minions; the number of policy missteps and failures you forced this nation to endure since you took charge make good elements for a trilogy of horror movies. Maybe the genes of political brilliance skipped an entire generation, we don't know. What we do know is we have suffered enough under your veneer of false hopes and weak promises; we desperately need a breath of fresh air. And we are not willing to take our chances with another progeny of yours. The way you handled this dispute was more or less another nail in the coffin for the notion of a Lee dynasty. The sun has set.
4. Newsflash: this episode of infighting has succeeded in making us the butt of international jokes, congratulations. And a decidedly disastrous resolution courtesy of you not suing your siblings means drops from the dirty laundry aired will ultimately remain behind, never to dissipate. Will you be able to properly command the respect of fellow world leaders thereon ? We reckon not. Is our sampan version 2.0 (now obviously riddled with holes) still afloat or has it started descending to the bottom? Oh we shudder to no end. How can we as Singaporeans hold our heads high again after the magnificent tarnishing of brand Singapore by your monumentally incompetent handling of the dispute? Hey world's best paid leader, add another feather in your cap: world's lousiest prime minister. Sigh.
Only slightly more than 2 years have passed since the departure of your highly revered father from this world, and Singapore is already thrown into disarray. If the PAP machinery is unable to arrest this down slide of affairs efficiently, SG55 might not even happen, let alone SG100.
Reflect PM Lee, please reflect.
