Renowned fashion destination Dover Street Market opens in Singapore on Sunday (29 July), offering a wide range of collections by upmarket brands such as Comme Des Garcons (CDG), whose designer is also the founder of the much sought after store.
Having opened only four outlets around the world – the first launched in London in 2004 followed by others in Ginza, New York and a franchise in China’s I.T Beijing Market – its most recent outlet is located at Block 18 Dempsey Road, measuring over 12,000 sq ft and occupying only one level. The single floor a first for Dover Street Market, whose outlets are typically housed in multiplexes.
“As with all human existence, nothing ever stays still, everything is always changing, and so it is that the first outpost of Dover Street Market in Southeast Asia finds itself in Singapore, and for the first time on only one floor, in an old army barrack with the highest ceiling ever seen in any DSM or CDG store,” said the president of Dover Street Market International Adrian Joffe, who is also the husband of CDG designer Rei Kawakubo.
Known for its unique collaborations, Dover Street Market Singapore is in partnership with local fashion company Club 21, which is also known for bringing curated fashion items by niche upmarket brands.

“Having worked with Rei Kawakubo and Adrian Joffe for over 25 years, we are proud to partner them in bringing Dover Street Market Singapore to fruition. Dover Street Market Singapore was a vital part of our plan for COMO Dempsey, with its trailblazing approach to art, fashion and retail, which aims to bring like-minded people together in a spirit of discovery,” said Christina Ong, the executive chairman of COMO Group.
Shoppers can look out for CDG’s main collections as well as other brands such as Gucci, Balenciaga and Nike. Exclusive items such as Dover Street Market Singapore Special T-shirts are also available.

Wonder how long this setup will last in Singapore where the physical retail scene is crumbling bit by bit...........
